Mike has worked as a
design engineer in the Boston area and as a software instructor
for two leading Autodesk resellers as well as at Autodesk
University.
Mike has a Masters of Science degree in Civil
Engineering and is a registered Professional Engineer in
the State of Massachusetts.
His publication credits include
official training courseware for Autodesk and Ascent, as
well as contributions to conference proceedings and John
Wiley & Son's Encyclopedia of Environmental Analysis
and Remediation.
Mike Choquette from IMAGINiT gave a presentation on AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009.
In Civil 3D 2009 the user can now create Civil 3D annotation for objects located in XREFs.
The user can now work large surfaces more effectively; the surface can be simplified and edges corrected by removing points (between two points) that lie in a straight line.
Large surfaces of 2-1/2 million points and up can be saved external to drawing files.
Complex spiral-curve combinations can be created for alignments much more easily.
There is a new surface boundary which can greatly reduce processing overhead when clipping large surfaces into smaller sections.
For the surveyor, there is new functionality for conducting mapcheck analyses.
The Mtext of the data check can be inserted into the dwg or exported to a Microsoft Word document.
Corridors can now utilize polylines and feature lines for targets. Roadway alignments and profiles can now take advantage of new design criteria to make sure designs are in keeping with local and national standards, such as AASHTO 2004.
A new interface for Data Shortcuts make them much easier to manage than previously. Volumes of cut and fill can be calculated and now a Mass Haul, a graph of the cut and fill along the alignment, can be generated. New feature line functionality can make intersection design and other complex grading tasks much easier.
In other news there is a new Autodesk user group that just started meeting in Manchester, NH called the New England Autodesk Civil Users Group. Their next meeting is Wednesday June 18th at 6 pm. The event will be hosted at the Autodesk office in Manchester NH.
This will be second of many user group meetings specifically geared to Civil Engineering professionals in the Northern New England area, serving Maine, New Hampshire, Northern Massachusetts, and Vermont. Their intent is to establish this as a recurring meeting to help facilitate discussion of technology, industry, and project trends for Civil, Survey, and Environmental users of Autodesk technology.
